Medical Clowning Through Enemy Lines

I’m a “Dream Doctor” – a medical clown. I skate around Galilee Medical Center with a red nose, a tambourine and a guitar and work as part of the multidisciplinary care teams in a variety of departments helping to improve patient wellbeing and care.

Hope for the Syrians

For the past 4 years, Galilee Medical Center has offered hope to victims of the Syrian Civil war.


GMC’s Induction into University of Toledo’s Medical Missions Hall of Fame

In April, Galilee Medical Center was inducted into The University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Science’s Medical Missions Hall of Fame.


A Warm Homecoming

Maya Filipe was born on April 19th, 2017 at Galilee Medical Center, weighing just 1.6 lbs (738 grams). After three months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Maya was able to head home with her family on July 11th. Her parents, Ortal and Oren Filipe, documented her time in the NICU with photos, and created this heartwarming video as a thank you to the GMC professional staff for their care, love and dedication.  (watch video)



Person to Person Medicine in Action

On June 26th, Dr. Arie Eisenman, Head of Emergency Medicine at GMC, spoke to the community at the Jewish Community Center of Youngstown. He spoke about his work treating the victims of the war in Syria. Dr. Eisenman talked about the lack of medical staff and infrastructure remaining in Syria, and said that there are likely around 1,000 doctors still living there, and the hospitals no longer have medical equipment or medicine to effectively treat those in need of care. Sharing our Success!

It is with great pride that we share the news that Galilee Medical Center has been awarded the Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. This accreditation is the gold standard in global health care in Israel. During the five day assessment process, JCI examiners reviewed all of Galilee Medical Center’s protocols and procedures, and spoke with leadership and staff from all areas to ensure that all of our work is done with the safety and quality standards of the JCI accreditation requirements.  (more…)

Dr. Barhoum receives AJC’s International Human Dignity Award

General Director Dr. Masad Barhoum was recognized by the American Jewish Committee (AJC) and received its International Human Dignity Award for the humanitarian work of our staff, from all sectors, in treating injured Syrians. He received the honor at a gala Independence Day luncheon in New York hosted by the AJC Women’s Leadership Board.

How an Israeli Hospital Took in Syrians and Became the World Leader in Treating War Wounds
