Innovation and cutting-edge technology continues to improve our patient-centered care! During a unique 5-hour surgery, a specialized team of senior physicians from Orthopedic’s Department A and the Plastic and Microsurgery Unit, inserted a customized 3D-printed implant into the leg of a young man who was injured in a car accident.
The 3D-printing allowed for precise matching of the implant to the area where the patient’s bone was injured during the crash.
Also, as part of an additional procedure, medical cement was removed and a 3D-printed titanium-built implant was fully fitted and inserted to the patient’s bone. The implants were designed in-house using our 3D printer.
Dr. Haim Shtarker, director of Orthopedics Department A’ performed the surgery with his deputy Dr. Pavel Nudelman, and Dr. Amin Abu-Jabal, a specialist in plastic and microsurgery. The best news is that just a few days after the successful surgery, the patient was discharged and is on his way to recovery.
