Diabetes Conference

On July 3rd,  the #Diabetes Conference for patients and their families was held at the Engel Health Education Center at GMC.

The conference, the sixth that has been held, was co-sponsored by Galilee Medical Center and the Israeli Diabetes Association at Galilee Medical Center under the auspices of Dr. Masad Barhoum, CEO of the Medical Center, and Dr. Motti Perlmutter, the head of the Israeli Diabetes Association, for the benefit of diabetes patients and their families.

The event began with a lecture by Dr. Amir Baskin, the head of the Endocrinology and Diabetes Institute, on the Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes including recent innovations in the field. Dr. Marina Nudelman, a senior endocrinologist, then spoke on “Approaches to Treatment of Overweight and Obese Diabetes Patients” and Dr. Natalie Kaikov, an expert in family medicine specializing in endocrinology and diabetes spoke on “Fasting and Medication in the Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes.” 

During the conference, a “Meet the Expert” panel was conducted in small groups with the participation of Dr. Marina Nudelman, Dr. Safrir Or, head of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Rena Sabach, dietician, Anat Kadar, psychologist and Dr. Baskin. Following the panel, Dr. Safrir Or gave a lecture entitled “Type 2 Diabetes and Cardiac Disease – the Importance of Physical Activity,” followed by Ms. Kadar’s lecture, “Mind and Body- Are They Connected in Diabetes?” The conference concluded with Dr. Baskin’s lecture, “The Future in the Field of Diabetes Treatment.”  The Diabetes Conference was free and open to the community.
