GMC has recently assigned a palliative multi-professional team to support progressive oncological patients. The team includes two senior doctors, a nurse and two trained social workers.

In recent years, numerous studies have supported the need and importance of palliative care for progressive cancer patients. Palliative care works to improve the patient’s general feeling, with emphasis on the patients’ quality of life and their wishes, and decrease of their suffering. GMC Palliative Care Team is being trained as part of the national palliative care program.  This program, which was recently initiated, is co-partnered by public and academic institutions. Through the program, teams from various medical institutions meet and share knowledge and experience. The goal is to promote a team approach to supporting patients and establish programs that fit the hospital’s unique needs. In addition, the program aims to increase awareness and change the perception related to cancer patients.
